Re: True Origins of the fpoc of Appalachia

several points. not trying to start feud, just pointing out that generalization only apply in general, not to specifics. This is any interesting & worthy topic
it is well known that for a long period the West Africans brought to the colonies came as indentureds, not as slaves. hence their descendants were generally never slaves.
with FPC, early on many were the children of Irish servant girls, hence born free.
My point was that there is no reason to assume that these FPOC were ever (runaway) slaves (unlike the Maroons) of Florida).
a look at the surnames of FPC in say 1790 census shows many to be Spanish, Italian and "Jewish". & ceased to be listed as FPC gradually.(as an aside in our Overton DNA (Familytree) we have 1 west African sample, & several that are seemingly"Jewish" (& those lines trace back to 1700s. so there is a lost history.)
my other point as a historian is that the term "African American" is so misleading as to be detrimental to research or serious discussion. a Dutch migrant to USA is a Caucasian African American. Using that idea, a Creek Indian is an American-American. such PC nonsense. There are historical useful terms, Mestizo, zamba, coyote, quadroon, that give a more accurate picture, of genetics and social place. a serious historian or scholar should not demean themselves with misleading PC. It hampers research. I have heard reporter say such nonsense as "French African-American". Trying to be PC & only being stupid.
& on Israel many would disagree & see it in Africa. minor point. tho at one time Ethiopia was all Jewish or pagan. Those Jews the Falashas moved to Israel, those that were not converted by force.
as a side note we are finding many "Negro" groups in Africa to be Jewish, The Lemba (their DNA is), now the IGbo & Ibo in Nigeria are "returning" to Judaism, after being forced to be Muslims or Christians for centuries. (Many American Negroes have their origin there, not in any Muslim group). check site Kulanu for data on them.
