Re: Archives - Mollie CLAUBER - death

ITEM #22255
March 10, 1868
VILLAGE RECORD
Death Notice DEATH OF AN AGED NEGRO WOMAN - The Coatesville
Union says, MOLLIE CLAUBER, an aged negro woman, died in
Coatesville on Wednesday evening last. It is a difficult
matter to tell what her age was, some persons saying she was
164 years old, while others say she was not more than 110,
which is nearer the truth. She was a slave in Wilmington, and
was given her freedom and came to Pennsylvania many years ago,
since which time she has had three husbands. One man, who is
over eighty years of age, said she appeared to be an old woman
when he was a boy. According to her own statement she must
have been some 18 or 20 years old when the battle of the
Brandywine was fought. She retained the use of her faculties
till the last, and never appeared to be very feeble. Last fall
when the Odd Fellows parade took place here she followed from
the time they started till they disbanded, and kept about the
middle of the ranks all the way.
