I have been trying to complete my family's genealogy & was quite interested to see this post. I am a descendant if the Portee family. It was often spelled Porter or Portier. They were from the southern coast of Va, and migrated to northern NC. They eventually made their way to SC. I know that they were of Portuguese, Native American, and Angolan blood. I know that they intermarried with other mixed descent families. I wonder if the Portier that you spoke of was of any relation to my family??
