Thanks for the informaton regarding the fact that they did not even have death records issued during the time Mathew Shaeffer/Shaffer died. Ohio, really did not keep very good records it seems. They did not have marriage applications, that had the name of the mother and father listed, like other states do during that time either. However I have several ancestors that lived in Ohio, George Peak, was said to be the first black settler of Cleveland, Ohio, there is an historical landmark for his son Joseph Peak's homestead. James and Sophia are grandparents of mine as well, Abner and Telitha were grandparents. I am also a decendant of the Sanders slaves that were freed by their owner and brought to Cass County, Michigan by their owners attorneys, after he died.
