Isabella Williams in Amherst, Virgnia

I recently took a DNA test from 23andMe and found out I have African heritage and would like to try and find my ancestors going back farther in Virginia.

My direct ancestor, Isabella Williams was a free woman of color born cir 1790 and died after Sept, 1860 in Amherst, Virginia. She had children with a Richeson Taylor. Children are: Sarah Ann (1810-), Nancy B. (1813-) and my direct ancestor, Richard (1816-1907).

I found my ancestors in a book called "Strangers in Their Midst: The Free Black Population of Amherst County Virginia".

I was able to find Isabella owning a horse in 1827 and Richeson in the 1820 census both in Amherst, Virginia, however, I have not been able to find any record of them before that time. I would love to find others who may be researching this line. Honestly, I don't know where I should even begin to look in Virginia. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
