In Response To: Re: Rickman ()
Hi Doug, do you have any idea, what happened to Abner Rickman, I cannot find anything on him anywhere? Is there any information that you know of, that has him listed in Greenville, Darke Co., Ohio with his wife Telitha? I have two grandfathers that lived in Darke County, Ohio, and the trail just ends. Abner Rickman, and Mathew H. Shaffer, the last time and only time, I see Mathew Shaffer is on the 1850 census record, with his wife Nancy Clemens and their children. I do not find Abner, anywhere. Also, I was sent a copy of a WILL, for a James Vicars, he lists Phillace Elam, (the mother of Telitha Elam, who married Abner Rickman) and her two children (free people of color). He leaves his property and all of his possessions to them. I found that so interesting, because he is a white man, who came from Russell, Virginia and moved to Warren Co., Tennessee. James Vicars was 38 yrs old I believe when he died and Phillace was about 66 yrs old, she also was originally from Virginia. I am wondering what the connection is. I also noticed that there was a white Elam, living right next door to the Vicars in Russell Co., Virginia. That was a big gem, for me to receive that information, and I want to pass it along for anyone who is a decendant of Phillace Elam, as I am, to be able to have that knowledge. Phillace, also has a WILL herself in Greenville, Ohio, I am going to send for it, as soon as the Court lets me know that they have located it. It is mentioned in a lists of WILLS, for Darke county Ohio, that I saw online, but, they have her first name spelled as Fillis Elam. The Garst mueseum in Greenville, Ohio, also has it, so I will go there this summer to get a copy if I have to. Sheila, from Michigan.
