Well...it's only a 45 minute show. Tracing slave ancestors can take one years. So, you have limitations considering producers and writers look for the most interesting stories.
I personally don't think the color or race of the genealogist matters in expertise or perspective.
One of the most knowledgeable historians of African-Americans is Ira Berlin.

Anyway, I'm always fascinated with the history of FPOC in the Americas and I'm always skeptical about these "Back to Africa" DNA tests.

It just seems that people are OBSESSED with looking for an African to get some kind of identity when you already have that here. But that's another topic for another thread.
