In Response To: Re: Blair Underwood ancestry- SCOTT/HUMBLE ()
Thank you so much for pointing us to a source for the Amherst Co., VA registrations of FPOC.
Following the Internet "traffic" generated by the Blair Underwood episode on WDYTYA concerning his FPOC ancestors is quite interesting. The unawareness by so many about the fact of the possibility of FPOC ancestry and also of the status (names, numbers & locations) of FPOC being required and documented is something of a surprise to me.... and probably to the regulars of this Forum. This Forum has been discussing and helping to document our FPOC ancestors since Dec of 2001, almost 11 years.
And as you point out, your reference was published in the early 1990's. Include Dr. Woodson's work's of FPOC in the 1830 Census published in 1926, the work of the moderator of this Forum Paul Heinegg, along with the documentation of State required freedom papers & registrations, etc. and we see this area of the AA experience in genealogy and family history is seemingly "untapped". hint .... FPOC research, a great presentation topic.
If nothing else the Blair Underwood episode brought the FPOC experience to the surface.
Just a thought,
