Angelica (Slave) Villere

Angelica (Slave) was the mother of Eloisa (Eloya) Louise Meuillon. She was a slave girl of Louise Marguerite de Lachaise.

Louise Marguerite de Lachaise married French soldier, Joseph Philippe Roy de Villere. They were the parents of Jacques Philippe de Villere, Governor of Louisiana.

A 1782 slave record states that Angelica, age 15, was part of the estate of deceased Louise Marguerite de Lachaise Villere. The record states that Angelica was sold to Mr. Meuillon. Ten (10) years later, in 1792, according to a slave record, Angelica, age 25, is sold again. The seller is Louis Meuillon and the buyer is Jacques Villere. The 1792 slave record states that Jacques Villere was the father of Angelica.

Eloise (Eloya) Louise Meuillon was born abt. 1786 according to a slave document dated Feb. 21, 1794. The 1850 census states she was born abt. 1790; and the 1860 census states 1785, which matches the slave document dated in 1794. The 1794 slave record states that Eloise, age 8, was sold by Louis Meuillon to Baptiste (libre) Meuillon.
