I don't know if they are related, but there was an Abraham Chase who was head of a Frederick County, Maryland household of 2 "other free" in 1800 and in 1810 there was a Samuel Chase (6 "other free") and Hetty Chase (4 "other free") who were counted in the census for Baltimore. The Maryland Archives has the deeds for all counties on-line, so you can check for a deed of manumission from your home. You have to email them to get a password for access.
