Re: Free Blacks ~ Kentucky
In Response To: Re: Free Blacks ~ Kentucky ()

The earliest I have been able to locate Rebecca is the 1850 census of Rapides Parrish, LA where there are a lot of Carrs lumped together. They are on (Ancestry)page 95 of the census record:
544 Fanny Blue 51 (VA)
Atwell Carr 21 (LA)
Hester Carr 17 (LA)
Carter Carr 11 (LA)
Virginia Carr 7 (LA)
William Carr 4 (LA)
Sarah Carr 1(LA)

545 Barney Carr 40 (KY)
Fanny Carr 38 (KY)
Eliza Potter Carr 16 (LA)
Martha Carr 14 (LA)
Henry Carr 11 (LA)

546 Mary Williams 31 (Ark)
Florida Jones 11 (LA)
Ebby F Williams 3/12 (LA)

Clara Kelso 14 (LA)--my 2XgreatgrandM
Georgiana Kelso 11 (LA) --sister
John 8 (LA)--brother
George 6 (LA) --brother
Rebecca (Carr) Kelso 32 (KY)--3XgreatgrandM
Mary Chase 35 (MD)
Caroline Chase 15 (LA)
Caroline Carr 7 (LA)
Samuel Carr 3 (LA)
Laura Carr 5/12 (LA)
848 George Carr 52 (MD)
Chastity Carr 45 (MD)

Rebecca's 'husband' and my 3XgreatgrandF George Y. Kelso 55 --planter(MD) is enumerated on page 101 in Ancestry.(the numbers on the copy are obscured, this is Ancestry's numbering.
George's wife Ellen Rich died in 1833 in Baltimore where his other children reside. He moved back and forth between MD and LA beginning about 1810, purchasing land and after his wife died, moved there for good. Two of his children from his first wife moved there as adults. The Carrs appear to be a clan, but they are all born in different states. Most are listed as 'black' excepting Rebecca's children. I only know the 4 for sure; Clara, Georgiana, John and George Young Kelso.
I always check for alternate spellings for names, but thanks for the reminder.
