() The only Frederick Chavers I have is one who was granted 100 acres in Colleton District near the Edisto River in 1770 (so say born before 1750) and a Frederick Chavis who petitioned the S.C. legistlature on 9 December 1859, claiming he was an Indian and should not have to pay the tax. (Since Indians were not taxable, this was the standard claim). Other names on the petition were James Jones, Bartley Jones, Mary Jones, Jonathan Williams, Polly, Dunn, Lewis Chavis, Durany Chavis).
