During the 1930s thru 1940s, the workers in the federal WPA program transcribed the handwritten minutes taken by the Montgomery County, Tennessee Courts. Mountain Press Publishing has reproduced the transcriptions of the 1823-1824 session of the Court, and includes mention of the free person status of Blacks at that time.
