Re: Zack CAGE (I found it!)
In Response To: Zack CAGE ()

I had forgotten that I posted this! :)

This weekend while attending the NBGS in Ft.Wayne IN, I FINALLY found the document I have been searching for for over 10 years.

Listed in the County Court Minutes of Washington County TN in October 1823 was the Emancipation record of Zachariah (my 4gr grandfather) age about 35 and Elisha age 25. Mrs. Elizabeth Cage petitioned and posted bond to emancipate the two men.

I am uncertain if the two are brothers--more research is needed to determine that but I am reasonably sure that a third slave owned by Elizabeth Cage, Ben (who was not freed at this time), may have been the brother of Zachariah.

Also found on this trip to Ft. Wayne was a bill of sale to Zachariah Cage in 1828 for one male slave about 25 years of age named Ben, for $300. The seller was Joshua S. Cage acting on a Power of Attorney given by Elizabeth Cage.

There was a LOT of "Happy Dancin'" going on in the Allen County Public Library this weekend! ;)
