My family is from mostly Anderson, SC. We have been here for as far back as 1808, alwasys in Belton, Anderson, SC. Yet in many of my ancesters census they state there parents as being from VA. I have yet to find any of my ancestors in any other state but SC.
How do you know if you slaves were free? All of the sensus I have all say the same thing ,"farmer". Is that a nice way of saying slave?
