Re: STEWARTs of Cass County Mich-EVANS Connection?

Thanks Deloris. The Chapmans/Chatmons were my direct ancestors whose racial origins I've been trying to determine for several years. The Evans link has been my most recent attempt to make some connection with known FPC families in the area. Census records from 1810 indicate 2 adult & 2 under 10, classified FPC, as living in their household. Another researcher & I believe that Polly/Sally belonged to this FPC family, but no evidence.
George Chapman, born @1760 married Elizabeth Hargrove, of Richard Hargrove of Nutbush, b @1820-30. We are confident that Richard's mother was an Unknown Shepperd. Richard had a brother, John Shepperd Hargrove. They were "illigitimate" children of Richard Hargrove Sr. , born @ 1690-1700. We very much suspect & have reason to believe that Shepperd was NA or mixed-blood. But I've not found anything definitive.
Of course, there is much more to this story, but I'll pass this much on hoping someone will come accross it & add some clue.
Thanks again.
Carla
