I'm looking for more information on Joseph Armstrong, listed on the 1850 census as Mulatto aged 71(born 1779) and was a Free Person of Color living in Up River with his son Jesse and his family. Oddly, according to the census, it says that he was born in Maryland....

While searching the Maryland records for Armstrong families, I came across two particular people of interest, brothers named Solomon Armstrong (who married Margaret Donaldson in Perquimans in 1765) and Russell Armstrong (who married Thankful Cahoon also in Perquimans)...

I find it strange that there would be two other people with the same last name who would have moved from Maryland to the exact same county (Perquimans) in North Carolina.

Solomon and Russell were white. Joseph Armstrong is listed as Mulatto.

Is there any connection?
