I have one of my ancesters listed on the 1860 Norfolk,Va census (Will. (William) Webb born on 1812 with wife Eliz. Webb and several children. Where can I find out more info on free blacks during this time? I am trying to find out if there was a list of names of free blacks. I can't go back farther on Ancestry.com to find out more info on him. Can anyone help with this? I do know that it list his occupation as oystermanas with several people on that census.
