I'm wondering if anyone is researching the Payne, Norman, Stevens and Lett surnames in Hocking County, OH.
These are four of the more well known and possibly researched early FPOC families in Ohio. Hocking County is in Ohio's SE quadrant and the nearby counties of Athens, Washington, Muskingum and Perry are "loaded" with descendants & researchers of these surnames.
Please excuse me if you already have this information:
1. Paynes Crossing Cemetery
Thomas Payne USCT
2. Bazeel (Basil) Norman - Rev. War veteran.
Denver Norman, a descendant of Basil was recently honored as the 1st AA from the State of Ohio to be accepted as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). There is an annual Norman Family Reunion usually in Columbus, Ohio in mid June.
3. Lett Researchers:
From this page there are many Links to research & researchers of the FPOC Lett Family. There are a couple of Lett Reunions held each year .... one mid July in Zanesville, Ohio and another in Michigan ... http://www.oldsettlersreunion.com/
4. Stephens/Stevens Researchers:
This Stephens/Stevens family is included in the Ohio Genealogical Society's 'First Families of Ohio'. Irita Canady has documented the prescence of these ancestors in Ohio prior to 1803. There is an annual Stephens/Stevens Family Reunion held in Waterford, Ohio each August. This year, 2011, will mark the 106th consecutive reunion.
Hope this may be of some help to you.
