() The historian, Ira Berlin has a book written in 1981, entitled "Slaves without Masters," which seeks to give a look at the lives of FPOC during colonial times. I believe that Paul Heinegg's book(s) seeks to tell, through documents of the time, the story of the lives of FPOC, including those who were indentured, primarily between 1600-1800 (there may have been no laws with respect to slavery prior to 1776, as there was no unified government of the US then, but there were black slaves in America prior to that time; and, unfortunately some were enslaved by American Indians).
