Another look at the Free vs Freed issue. When Ohio came into the Union as a Free State in 1803 one of the first things the Ohio Legislature did in 1804 was to pass the Ohio Black Codes. For the Ohio FPOC the circumstance of their freedom (free born vs manumitted) didn't seem to be an issue.
