Carmen, I'm not researching the PROCTOR surname, but I just wanted to say that I totally agree with your posting about differentiating between Free vs Freed persons of color. I think that all too often the issue seems to confuse some people, and it's always good to remind folks of the correct meanings of the terms once in a while.
