Hi Joseph. I know about the House family only through their marriages to other free, mixed-race families in the Granville County, North Carolina area.
Mary Houze married Lewis Anderson, 1 January 1822 Granville County bond, George Anderson bondsman.
Morris Evans married Elizabeth House 1812 Wake County bond. Morris was head of a "free colored" Wake County household in 1830.
William Bass, "free Negro," was charged in Granville County with living in adultery with Patsy House, no date noted [North Carolina Archives file CR 44.289.19].
The family was probably in the Granville County area since colonial times, but I have never seen a male member of the family on any of the early tax lists.
