Abstract: Amherst County residents point out that Archy Cary, an emancipated slave previously owned by Thomas Higginbotham, is not only a land owner but "a respectable worthy man." With a wife and children, Cary managed a hack driving business in Lynchburg for many years. Residents request that he be permitted to remain in Virginia.
