Re: FOUND - FPOC+Washington Co. PA Census
In Response To: Re: FOUND - FPOC+Washington Co. PA Census ()
Hi Linda, Thanks for the information! Roger Dorsey was a FPOC in 1808 - manumitted by the Dickerson Family of Amwell/MorrisTownship Washington, PA. He was listed as Roger with no last name at the time of manumission.
Roger did live next to Molly Cooper in the town of Washington, PA after being freed. Molly was another of the Dickerson Slaves who were manumitted in 1808. I cross check with the Brownsville Dorseys on a constant basis. I have never seen a Roger in any of their data. I did see a Benjamin Dorsey belonging to the Brownsville Dorseys and have had to eliminate him from any connnection because of this. May I ask if you know of the Dorseys who lived in Washington, PA? There were a number of families - members of the Methodist Church and one Samuel Dorsey was instrumental in the Underground Railroad. Benjamin, Samuel, Ann, etc. I can't connect. I don't know if they are the Brownsville Dorsey or the Roger Dorsey I follow. Roger Dawsey, written up in an old newspaper, is probably the same Roger Dorsey I follow. I see no other Roger Dawsey or Roger Dorsey anywhere. If anyone finds this name, please let me know. Thanks for writing. Would love to hear more!
