Many of my relatives fled South Louisiana for Veracruz, Mexico and Haiti beginning in the 1840s. It was getting kind of heated in the decades before the Civil War for fpoc.

And many women of color took Anglo or French Creole spouses. Many of my female ancestors did and someone benefited from it financially via getting land or other property.
