Re: Strange from VA to PA & MI
In Response To: Strange from VA to PA & MI ()
Rebecca Strange, daughter of Rueben Strange of Winchester, VA, married Harvey G. Webb who relocated from Va to Detroit, Michigan. Harvey was the eldest son of William Webb b 1912, a stationmaster in Detroit's Underground Railroad and leader in the anti-slavery work in Michigan. It was at Wm Webb's house, in 1859, that Frederick Douglass met John Brown, along with other African-American Detroit leaders. Harvey kept a second-hand store on E. Congress Street. His son, Chas Ray Webb, helped found Detroit first African-American h ospita (Dunbar Hospital) and was a high raking Federal government official in MI. A more complete story can be found in my book, "OUR SILENT SONG, THE TRUE STORY OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY - Publishamerica.
