Abstract: At the last session, the General Assembly rejected a petition presented by free black Joseph Tyree seeking residency status for his wife Nancy, and children, Sally, Mahala, Charles, Joseph, James, Mary, and Martha. The family is "very domestic & Industrious," a group of sixty-one whites say, and less dangerous than any black family in the area. They should be allowed to remain in Virginia.
