Location: Henrico County, VA • Year: 1820
Abstract: Emancipated in 1815 by the will of Izard Bacon, John Winston left his family and moved to Pennsylvania. He was induced by his "love of Liberty (the predominant passion of man) to make the sacrifice of his domestic happiness." He now finds he cannot live without his slave wife and children, and seeks to return to Virginia.
