If you click onto the Image of the Ancestry census page, you will be able to see the name. It is not a good quality image, and the "P" does have a small loop, but it does read STEPHEN PERKINS.
As info, it is always best to NEVER trust an index as a source, those are subject to the transcriber. Whenever the images are available, always click onto it to see for yourself exactly what it says.
