INDIA IN NORTH CAROLINA
Thanks to Paul Heinegg information on east indians in the south, I wasn't in a state of shock when i found my great grandfather was from india and lived in the south in the 1800's, not only that i
searched ports and found a ship manifest and found a passanger with his name and the same date of birth.
Living in the south in america his hindustani (india) race, changed to free colored and on the census it changed to mullatoe.

I had the picture of the great grandfather that racial identity was unknown. An elder cousin whose mother was the great grandfathers daughter was able to identify the race, he said that his grandfather, which is my great grandfather was from India.
