Re: Redman UGRR connections
In Response To: Re: Redman UGRR connections ()

quote> mother's place of birth is listed as France

Like you, I tend to assume that Paris is actually a town somewhere in the USA ... but I have never been able to determine exactly which town & state.

quote> Did you have the opportunity to transcribe documents or have you ever seen documents from Isaac's trunk that you are referring to?

No not me.

quote> Or do you know who transcribed them? Has the trunk or any of its papers been found?

Ted STOUT is the one who physically saw the originals & sent me his transcription. I know you have his email address. I believe the trunk is in his possession or at least someone in his wife's family. She is the REDMAN great-granddaughter of Isaac Wolverton REDMAN. But the last couple times I talked to Ted, he was not working much on genealogy anymore.

quote> can you also tell me if Isaac Wolverton Redman's father Jesse Redman might be one of the Jesse Redmans found in the 1840 Scioto Township, Ross County, Ohio census OR Hopewell Township, Muskingum County, Ohio?

No I can't answer that with any certainty. I never heard that Jesse Sr. was in Ohio. I know the brothers Isaac & Jesse Jr. spent some time in Ohio & were supposed to be involved with the underground railroad. But unfortunately there were other individuals by the same name in Ohio at the same time & I can't tell them apart because the census did not list household members before 1850.

A few years ago, I tried to follow up on the underground railroad connections by contacting Beverly J. GRAY at ...
http://www.angelfire.com/oh/chillicothe/ugrr.html

Unfortunately she assumed I was enquiring about an
Isaac REDMAN (former slave) m=Nancy CUNNINGHAM.
She thought I was confused about the REDMAN lines & I could
never convince her that Isaac REDMAN (FPoC) m1=Nancy JONES
was a different REDMAN line altogether.

If you try that research angle angle, please DO let me know any new findings.

Thanks :)
NICOLE
