The New Orleans Public Library has a vertical file on the Fair Grounds that may have some information in it. I don't know what they charge to copy materials or how big the file is. It seems like something better done in person. I'd be very skeptical of the story, I grew up in New Orleans and I would think the such a story would be better known if it were true because the Fair Grounds is such a prominent place in New Orleans.
