============================== R: Monica, I've sent you (privately) a link to some family reports you may download... A little about your HURD line to get you started... Your great, great, great grandfather, William Henry HURD, was born in England in 1783, emigrated at the age of 19 to the USA and settled in the state of Georgia. He fathered four children by a slave woman named Hannah Winifred "Winnie" MNU. When the State of Georgia passed laws that made his children slaves also (in most slave states a child assumed the legal status of the mother), he and the children moved (about 1835) to Warren County, Ohio where a brother resided. The HURDs then moved to Carthagena, Mercer County, Ohio. Later, after William Henry died (more than likely in Warren County, Ohio) his sons went back to Georgia and purchased their mother out of slavery and brought her back to Mercer County, Ohio where she lived with one of her sons as a housekeeper. The name Georgia or some variation thereof has been very popular among HURD women through the years. Doug
