Date: 1/14/2009, 10:48 pm Book two is "Hotel Keepers, Head Waiters, and Housekeepers' Guide" By Tunis Gulic Campbell (1848) http://digital.lib.msu.edu/projects/cookbooks/html/books/book_17.cfm I was not familiar with T. G. Campbell. Those who studied Georgia history may know of him. He was born in NJ in 1812. He worked as a hotel steward in New York and Boston. He became a Methodist minister. By 1861 he was copartner in a bakery in New York. In 1863 he was commissioned by the secretary of war to go to Port Royal, SC where he worked and in 1865 he was appointed to supervise land claims and resettlement on 5 Georgia islands.
When the Democrats regained power in the state of Georgia in 1871, Campbell's senate seat was taken that resulted in a series of lawsuits and legal woes. By 1876 Campbell was serving time in a convict labor camp. After his release he headed to Washington to meet with President Rutherford B. Hayes. T. G. Campbell in 1877 wrote a book entitled "Sufferings of the Reverend T. G. Campbell and His Family in Georgia" It can be read here http://www.archive.org/details/sufferingsofrevt00camprich Works about him
