Hot water cornbread is made a few different ways. I was taught to use plain cornmeal, a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar. Heat your water to a boiling point. (Never use just hot water, it will not precook the cornmeal). Pour the boiling water into the cornmeal mix. Completely mix it. Mixture will be pasty not liquidly. I usually wet my hands and make patties. Cook them in the oil of your choice. Turn a couple of times until they are golden brown. Some folks deep fry theirs. A quick way to cook some cornbread without turning on the hot oven. :)
