Funny that you posted this... I went to my mother's house last weekend for a day visit.. She said she wanted to go out to eat.. so I piled Mom and my family into the car and went to eat.

She said that they wanted a salad for dinner.. and then added.. "I have been eating Black-eye peas since New Years and want something different!" I had all but forgotten that we did ate black-eye peas at New Years when I was a kid.. I had no idea that she had continued the tradition...

My mother grew up in Memphis and said this is what her parents ate every New Years.
