Unusual Reunion Foods

I was at my family reunion the weekend of July 26-29 in southern California. Of course we did a lot of eating. Isn't that reunions are for? LOL. We had Mexican night- tacos, tamales, rice & beans. Next night, Friday, a fish fry. That was the first time I had seen salmon dipped in corn meal and fried. Has anyone had or heard of fried salmon? On Bar-b-que/picnic day, we had the usual, bar-b-que ribs, chicken, links, potato salad, baked beans, corn. Then they brought out chili verde which my cousin's wife made, delicilous. It made me wonder how cultures influence food. It was unusual but very much appreciated.
What unusual orunique foods have been served at your family reunion or gatherings?
