This is what I wrote: I am convinced teacakes like many southern dishes originated from slaves who learned to make do with ingredients on hand and combined a version of the English treats they cooked in plantation households. The teacake was an English treat. What I meant was and I guess I did not make myself clear is that more than likely slaves took ingredients on hand and made their own version of the English treat. I will hold to that and make no apologies or excuses for what I believe.
