WICHITA, Kan. - Hattie Jeffreys admits she didn't pay much attention when a doctor told her she was a borderline diabetic.
Today, the 54-year-old from Wichita, Kan., has no choice. The full onset of the disease means she must take insulin, receive dialysis and monitor her blood sugar throughout the day.
"It just got out of whack," Jeffreys said. "I didn't realize how damaging it can be to your health if you don't take care of it like you should."
