The Canning and Pound Cake
This forum is great!
Our ancestors may not have started the canning process, but they did use it. They canned the produce from their gardens and the fruit friom their trees. How many remember the pear and fig preserves and the pickles. Picled peaches and pickled okra were my favorites.
I started making jams and jellies because my aunt always made preserves and jellies. She made apple jelly from the peelings and cores of apples. The apple slices were used for apple pie.
This was another example of the AA family not wasting any food.
I think many a black woman has gotten her claim to fame on what kind of pound cake she can produce. It seems especially important in church culture.
This younger generation is missing a lot with all this store-bought food.
