100th Anniversary, 10th Cavalry, U.S. Army, "Buffalo Soldiers" in Vermont

Fort Ethan Allen, Dalton Drive, Colchester/Essex, Vermont
Fort Ethan Allen was an active fort from 1894 to 1960 and the 10th
Cavalry has been designated its most famous troops according to the
historic marker placed on the parade ground at the fort. Please join
us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 10th Cavalry, ?Buffalo
Soldiers,? arrival in Vermont (July 28, 1909). Saturday, August 1, the
day will begin at 11:00 am with a ?Mounted Cavalry Parade? with by
National 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association members, many of
whom are WWII and Korean era veterans.
Share in the unique history of Fort Ethan Allen and its veterans
through narrated tours of the fort, the Stone Tower, the new Fort
Ethan Allen Museum, Camp Johnson Militia Museum, exhibits by local
historical societies, the University of Vermont and St. Michael's
archives, WWII Museum of Black History and the Morgan Horse Heritage
Foundation, oral history recordings, 40th Army Band Concert, lectures,
music and children?s activities.
Free and open to the public. Educational and appropriate for all ages.
