DNA Testing.....Curious

I am curious about this DNA Testing, however quite interested in going through with it. What is the actual price? Do you pay for it up front? Also, when doing DNA is this just on your father's side or both? My research on my mother's side is the House family as well as the Crowell family since my grandfather John House married my grandmother Martha Crowell. On the Evans family is that of my grandfather Joe Evans married to my grandmother Mary Vance.
