Not sure I can be of any help in the area of recombination, matches & GEDmatch comparisons. I have no siblings, parents, aunts or uncles to test. And known cousins (2nd & 3rd) that have done testing have only done Y & mtDNA testing, so they aren't found in 23andme, FTDNA autosomal RF/FF, AncestryDNA cousin matches, or GEDmatch. I can relate my results and experiences.

I tested, initially in 2005, to verify oral histories of European and Native American ancestry. Being culturally and physically identified as African American I was surprised that both Y & mtDNA Haplogoups results reflected European origins. I1d1 for Y-DNA and H3 for mtDNA. This then required my doing admixture/autosomal testing to determine my African DNA origins. These results reflected my percentages in the range of +/_ 49% Euro, 48% SSA and 3% NA. I have had 3rd party testing done on my autosomal "raw data" to help determine the origins of each ethnic group.

My cousin matches, RF/FF and AncestryDNA, mostly in the 3rd to distant cousin range number at the present 523 for RF, 750 for AncestryDNA & 68 for FF. The great majority of these matches, 75-85 %, are of European ancestry, probably due to the population of the respective database my results are being compared against.

Another item: FTDNA is the only company that also reflects Haplogroup matches (H3) and here I have over 8,000 mtDNA matches at the HVR1/HVR2 & Full Sequence level and over 1,500 Y-DNA (I1d1) matches from the 12 Marker thru 67 Marker level.

No,no you both were right on target..I definitely agree that I need to get his Y into FTDNA as soon as I can afford to..ha ha.
I know NOTHING about non European haplotypes and researching those lines. That is why I DO need any help you can give me.

I was shocked that our matches with Tevin seemed smaller so I checked with a couple folks I know and learned about the possibility of AA recombining more quickly.

If that is true I think it is important for people to know as I clearly did NOT.

Have any of you noticed this? Different sized matches?
The matches Tevin shares with my sister ( his great Aunt) and myself are more numerous and smaller. So it seems that 23andme who do not allow any "breaks" in the run report the sequences differently than Family Tree DNA or what I saw when I put him at GEDmatch.

I really appreciate what you all have told me.

Any help you can give me is great. One of my Granddaughter has a great grandparent from Puerto Rico so I saw a bit of it but not to this extent.

I am learning and do know nothing about his haplotype except that it for sure goes back to Africa.
