Re: Has anyone used geneticancestor?

Thanks Chad,

I am mostly trying to understand the method in which AfricanAncestry determines specific limited tribes of folks based on a haplotype. I do understand that having a large database is better because they have access to more people, however many other studies are done in Africa because it is where all humanity link.

So far I have 8 low level matches in the FTDNA Mitosearch database and 0 in the high level database. I have 60 matches with GeneticAncestor, which I understand are HVR-1 and 2 matches. Perhaps I will test with African Ancestry to see what their results show me.

I love it that African Ancestry is able to derive a tribal link based on a haplotype, as a African born in America this appeals to my essence. I just want to know how it can be so specific? Also it occurred to me after my initial post that I am talking about only my mtDNA and not the Y-DNA, so that could be a major factor.

I will write to African Ancestry today and ask, then ask them permission to post the response back to this message board.
