Test the Elders First
In Response To: Surprising Results from DNA ()
You made an excellent point, that we should focus on testing our elders to gain better insight into our ancestry. I am testing my maternal great aunt, my grandfather's sister, to test the oral tradition that her grandmother was Native American. Unfortunately my grandfather died many years ago, so I cannot test him. Although he had a son and male descendants through that son, I won't be able to "double check" his mother's line (as the grandsons will test for their mother's line and not mine).
I wish these tests were available years ago when my elders were still living. I now have to go to collateral relatives to find the lines I want to test. Many of these cousins I've never met.
