DNA Test Results
I just received the Test Result Package from DNAPrint Genomics. The testing agency was AncestryByDNA and it was their latest version 2.5.
It is going to take some time to absorb everything that was in the package, which included a CD that contained:
I also had DNA testing by FamilyTreeDNA for my Y-DNA & mtDNA. The 25 Marker Y-DNA & the mtDNA HVR1 & HVR2 tests.
Now for the Results...FAmyTreeDNA, which tests only two direct ancestral lines, Y=paternal and mt=maternal and gives the results as Haplogroup assignments, for me Male was Haplogroup (I) and female Haplogroup (H), both of primarily European origin.
AncestrybyDNA 2.5 my BGA, or Biogeographical Ancestry by percentages
From the AncestryByDNA Package - How is BGA Analysis different from mtDNA and Y-chromosomal ancestry analysis?
ďThere are several commercially available test of mtDNA (female contribution) and Y-chromosomal (male contribution) markers, which have been promoted as a means of learning oneís ancestral origins. Although these test could provide information regarding the provenance of some of a personís ancestors, they are very limited. For example one generation ago a person has two ancestors, one mother and one father; five generations ago, a person has 32 ancestors; while 10 generations ago, a person has 1,024 ancestors. Ten is roughly 250 years and within the time frame of genealogical interest, especially when we are considering the settlement of North America, because they only look at two (2) chromosomes, Y-chromosomal analysis and mt analysis each could only provide information on a very small proportion of a personís ancestors. Our test relies on sequences throughout your genome, so we can say more about a greater number of ancestors. My genealogy goes back 11 generations at this point, thatís 2,048 ancestors.
Well, Iíve said enough in this post and I apologize for being so lengthy/wordy, but it is going to take some time to "absorb" these results.
