Howdy! My cousin, who is a maternal descendant of my 3g-grandmother from the Bahamas also tested as L3f1. I found a scholarly article that listed the ethnic groups in Africa (and elsewhere) where they found folks with this haplogroup. They say that L3f started in East Africa, but some L3f1 people moved to West Africa about 10-20K years ago. Other L3f1 people crossed the Red Sea into the Arabian Peninsula, so there are Arabs with this haplogroup, too.
The article is "The making of the African mtDNA Landscape" by Antonio Salas, et al. in American Journal of Human Genetics 71:1082-1111, 2002. There's probably been interesting research since then. We should find out!
