Re: Surname Projects
In Response To: Surname Projects ()
I just read your message dated April 24, 2005 asking if anyone submitted their Y-DNA results to any surname project in an attempt to find the family of their putative slave owner?
I have submitted my uncles Y-DNA to the surname project Pugh. My uncle's surname is West but his Y-DNA did not match anyone in the West DNA surname project on family tree DNA and his results turned out to be European instead of African. But, his Y-DNA was a match with the members of the Pugh Surname Group, so I joined that group also. My family is the only black members in the Pugh Surname Group at this time. My closest match in the group is a difference of 1 at 37 markers and 2 at 67 markers. Me and this person are currently working on trying to identify which son's line of the common ancestor fathered my West Line. I hope this information will be of help to you. I find the use of DNA testing fascinating.
