My father's mother's lineage is L3d. This is the report for my cousin's mtDNA test through Trace Genetics.
"Haplogroup L3 is widespread throughout Africa and may be more than 50,000 years old. Your particular sequence belongs to the sub-clade L3d. This subgroup is widespread throughout Africa and has its highest frequency in West Africa.
Your particular sequence (haplotype) exactly matches sequences reported in individuals from Ethiopia."
Subsequent analysis of her mtDNA sequence by African Ancestry showed that her particular sequence was 99.7% the same as sequences from the Mende and Temne people of Sierra Leone.
